Paediatric Oncology Network and COmmunication on the Mind-body-Environment relationship (ON-COME)

The ON-COME project aims to transform the psychosocial and nutritional care provided to pediatric cancer patients, focusing on children, adolescents, and young adults (0-24 years). These patients and their families often face significant psychosocial and neuropsychological challenges, which are exacerbated by gaps in supportive services across Europe. ON-COME seeks to close these gaps by developing a unified service system that standardizes best practices in psychosocial and nutritional care, ensures equitable access to high-quality services, and integrates digital innovations for more personalized patient care. The project is structured around six Work Packages (WPs) that address key challenges in pediatric oncology care. WP2 will map existing psychosocial, neuropsychological, and nutritional services in participating countries, identifying strengths and gaps, and create a Blueprint for a Unified Service System. WP3 focuses on developing advanced digital tools, including an AI-powered patient-caregiver app and a healthcare professional (HCP) platform, to enhance service delivery and decision-making. WP4 will provide specialized training for HCPs, ensuring they are equipped with the skills necessary for holistic, patient-centered care. WP5 will pilot the newly developed services in clinical settings across Europe, with continuous evaluation to ensure effectiveness and adaptability. WP6 will focus on dissemination, outreach, and policy impact, ensuring that the project's results are shared widely and incorporated into healthcare policies across Europe. By the end of the project, ON-COME will have developed and piloted a standardized framework for psychosocial and nutritional care, enhanced the skills of healthcare professionals, and created digital tools to support the patient journey.
