Abstract:
“Learning vocabulary is learning collocations” (Hausmann 1984: 395). Collocations are a particularly difficult area of the foreign language and they are the reason for many mistakes. Nevertheless, their way into the dictionaries was very long and still today collocations are not systematically presented in dictionaries. The aim of this study, which was carried out as part of a larger project (the realization of the online bilingual dictionary for LSP language Tourlex), is to investigate Internet dictionaries (Leo, dict.cc, Pons, Langenscheidt, Wiktionary) in order to answer questions related to the existence and presentation of collocations in them. The study, which focuses the lexicographic description of collocations and idiomatic word combinations exclusively focusing on the language pair German-Italian, is intended to serve as a snapshot of the current situation and, without the aim of making generalizing statements, to indicate tendencies. Lexicographic projects in particular can profit from this – as in the case of Tourlex – since decisions can be made on the basis of concrete data and facts.
