Abstract:
The teaching of Portuguese language in Italian universities represents the first opportunity to learn this language. This leads us to rethink the ‘type’ of students that we have in our university classes. In the case study proposed here, the majority of the students were young adults who left their families for the first time and arrived in a big city. Therefore, the emotional aspects arefundamental and can interfere in the learning process of the language. Through the application of the theories of Stephen Krashen, Merrill Swain, Lyster and Ranta, in particular, it was discussed the improvement of didactic methodologies in the classroom, especially the way of deconstructing the affective filter.
