Abstract:
In Physics i 1, Aristotle outlines a method to get to the principles of nature. He envisions an epistemic journey that consists in a progressive articulation of what is initially confounded. We have every reason to expect that this method is applied in the rest of the book. In this essay, I show how the method is applied by focusing on Aristotle’s discussion of what his predecessors accomplished (or failed to accomplish).
