Abstract:
Thermally assisted hydrolysis and methylation - gas chromatography / mass spectrometry (THM-GCMS) can be successfully used for the analyses of synthetic and natural binding media in the field of conservation (Cappitelli Brazil, 2002). This paper describes results regarding the application of the THM-GCMS technique for the characterisation of paints found on Jackson Pollock's Number 14, 1951 (Tate T03977), and Patrick Caulfield's Battlements, 1967 (Tate T00949).
