Abstract:
OBJECTIVES The aim of this work is to report a case of gnathological treatment with resolution of a vertigo symptomatology in a subject affected by slight signs of TMD. MATERIALS AND METHODS An accurate gnathological treatment protocol was followed applying a customed lower arch occlusal bite that leads to an ideal occlusal balance. RESULTS Wearing the occlusal bite brought to a reduction and resolution of vertigo and muscular tension and pain on muscular palpation symptomatology after 2 months. Furthermore, an increased maximum mandibular opening to a physiological value was observed after 3 months. This was the consequence of the obtained ideal occlusal balance related with the inferior occlusal bite. CONCLUSIONS The scientific literature showed that TMD could have an auricular involvement including vertigo symptomatology. This case report shows the resolution of a vertigo symptomatology after an ideal occlusal balance obtained by applying an occlusal bite in a subject predisposed to TMD still mostly silent at the clinical exam.
