Abstract:
A quasi-three dimensional model is developed to simulate the groundwater flow at fine scale, over an area of 14 km2located inside the city of Milano (Italy). The fine scale model is nested in a large scale model, which provides physically consistent boundary conditions; this permits to study the interactions between well fields, considering both the regional-scale behaviour of the aquifer system and the local effects of a pumping well. Stationary flow is modelled for two different flow situations. The radius of influence of a well field is estimated from the study of the transient flow with periodical source terms.
