Abstract:
Riccarda Visconti (1306-post 1366), the wife of the Marquis of Saluzzo Thomas II, played a central role in many of the political and military events tied to the defense of her husband dominion. This article reconstructs her biography through archival documents and through the autobiographical novel of her grandson Tommaso III: Le Livre du Chevalier Errant (1403-1405). In this work Riccarda - along with all the other women that appear in the text - is described through a lexical and semantic register directly linked to the style used by Christine de Pizan in her novel Cité des Dames. It is indeed quite probable that Tommaso III often visited de Pizans atelier in Paris while the two were writing their respective novels.
