Zur Typologie intertextueller Verfahren (Čechov bei Akunin, Sorokin, Głowacki und Mamet) / M. Schruba. - In: ZEITSCHRIFT FÜR SLAWISTIK. - ISSN 0044-3506. - 53:4(2008), pp. 438-455.
Abstract:
The analysis of Chekhov references in four contemporary plays is the basis for an attempt to establish a typology of intertextual strategies. The peculiarity of the examined strategies is their reference to the pre-text as a whole (in distinction from such phaenomena as quotation or allusion, referring to the pre-text in a particular manner): B. Akunin′s "Seagull" combines the elements of a sequel and a contrafaction of Chekhov′s "Seagull"; V. Sorokin′s "Jubilee" is an example for the poetics of collage in regard to various Chekhov′s plays; J. Głowacki′s "The Fourth Sister" can be seen as a transformation (i.e. adoption of the topic) of Chekhov′s "Three Sisters"; D. Mamet′s "Uncle Vanya" combines the traits of an adaptation and a remake of Chekhov′s "Uncle Vanya". On the assumption that "total" references to the pre-text affect mainly three aspects of a literary work - setting (personae, chronotope), action (plot) and ideological content (topic), and with two variables taken into account (adoption vs. variance), arise eight different models of "total" intertextual strategies.
