Abstract:
Wepresentthedesignofaphoton–photoncolliderbasedonconventionalComptongammasourcesfor
the observationofsecondary γγ production. Twosymmetricelectronbeams,generatedbyphotocathodes
and acceleratedinlinacs,producetwoprimarygammaraysthroughComptonbackscatteringwithtwo
high energylasers.Tuningthesystemenergytotheenergyofthephoton–photoncrosssectionmax-
imum, a flux ofsecondarygammaphotonsisgenerated.Theprocessisanalyzedbystart-to-endsimu-
lations fromthephotocathodestothepropagationoftheQEDphotonstowardsthedetector.Thenew
Monte Carlocode ‘Rate OfScatteringEvents’ (ROSE)hasbeendeveloped ad hoc for thecountingofthe
QED events.Realisticnumbersofthesecondarygammayield,referringtoexistingorapprovedset-ups
and adiscussionofthefeasibilityoftheexperimentarepresented.
