Abstract:
My paper focuses on the particular role that food plays in Giovanni Ruffini's Novel "Dr Antonio". The novel is a sort of travelogue which romanticizes the encounter of Italian and English culture on Italian soil. Food is an important feature of Italianness, but it is never presented in its "typical" Italian aspect; rather Ruffini emphasizes the similarity of Italian and English food, or, better, the suitability of Italian food to English tastes.
