Abstract:
Introduction: Markers of left ventricular (LV) remodeling have proven to be prognostically valuable in patients with heart failure (HF). Variables such as LVmass and LV end systolic volume (LVESV) can be expressed in both absolute and relative terms, both predicting adverse events. The present investigation compares the prognostic significance of absolute and normalized expressions of LVmass and LVESV. Methods: Two-hundred and forty three HF patients (190 male/53 female, age: 62.2±9.7 years, ejection fraction: 35.6±11.0%) underwent standard 2-dimensional echocardiography for evaluation of LVmass and LVESV.
