Abstract:
The bioactivity of Smac mimetics (a new class of peptidomimetic pro-apoptotic anticancer drugs) [1], and the peculiar physico-chemical properties of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) [2], were combined in novel SPION-Smac conjugates 4-9 as theranostics (Figure 1). The synthesis of key Smac mimetics 1-3, their support onto SPIONs through non-covalent adsorption (4, 6 and 7) or through APTES-mediated covalent binding (5, 8 and 9), their target affinity measurement in cell-free assays, and their cytotoxicity against tumor cells will be thoroughly described [3].
