Abstract:
In the wide domain of wisdom literature, the dialogic option characterizes a small group of question and answer texts, which gained constant success during the Middle Ages and beyond. In the Iberian peninsula the ancient pattern has been adapted, with structural and thematic variations, to obtain a didactic instrument more comprehensive; but the diversion offered by the fictional framework and the intellectual challenge to the reader were appreciated as well, and preserved. It’s particularly interesting to find some of the same features in well-known encyclopedic works as the french Livre de Sydrac, where vulgarization is combined with edification and entertainment.
