Abstract:
In ukiyoe color prints tradition famous landscape views (meishoe) represent one of the most popular subjects that were acquired as souvenir images. This same subject, and mostly the same places, continued to be represented also when photography overcame woodblock print technique switching to the new support. A phenomenon which is unique of Japan, and which involved both Japanese and foreigner first photographers.
