Abstract:
Mastitis is the pathology with the greater impact on the economy of a dairy herd. Prevention of intramammary infections is mainly based on structural and management interventions. Furthermore, immunity system of the mammary gland plays a fundamental role in the control of infection and mastitis. Anti-mastitic vaccines, commercially available, reduce the clinical severity of Infection, increase the self cure rate, but generally do not confer resistance to new intramammary infection. Research on vaccines is on-going on developing new target and approach against the three main mammary pathogens: Strept. uberis, S. aureus e E. coli.
