Phonetic variation in Italian L2: An acoustic analysis of sibilant fricatives in the speech of L1 Spanish learners

This article examines the phonetic variability of sibilant fricatives in Italian L2 as produced by Spanish learners in Spain, as confronted with Italian native speakers. A sociophonetic approach is adopted to explain the variability found in both segment length and place of articulation.
