Abstract:
A study was conducted to demonstrate multivalent, saccharide-functionalized gold nanoparticles as fully synthetic analogs of type A Neisseria meningitidis antigens. The study demonstrated that the type A Neisseria meningitidis antigens bind to mouse polyclonal antibodies effectively. ELISA investigations were conducted that revealed that nanoparticles appear to be more powerful and effective than the oligomeric saccharides. The study also highlighted the comparative advantages of the self-assembled process and the covalent oligomerization. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images for nanoparticles size determination were recorded on a copper grid, using a Jeol 300PX instrument. Thiols 2 and 7, along with saccharides were also prepared to conduct more investigations.
