Abstract:
A little-known member of the Bohemian masters’ circle
inspired by the philosophical and theological views of John Wyclif, Nicholas of Miličín was affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and
active as a preacher in Prague from at least 1390. After outlining
his intellectual biography, the article focuses on the determination of a question posed to him by Matthias of Knín at the 1409
Prague Quodlibet. The t ext i s transmitted b y two manuscripts,
both attributing it to Miličín. A further determinatio of the same
question is found in one of the two manuscripts, where it is left
unascribed. A comparison of the two texts in terms of textual
and doctrinal similarities and differences is provided. This analysis raises some important questions concerning academic practices and intellectual life at Charles University at the turn of the
fifteenth century
