“Studying in prison outside prison: The experience of social cooperation at the University of Milan”, Global Initiatives Virtual Lecture, BPI and Incarceration Nations Network
Public Engagement With funding from BPI in 2022, the University of Milan launched a project that supports a group of incarcerated students who offer voluntary and free tutoring sessions to high school and university students who need support in humanistic or scientific studies. They are successful university students who have received special teacher training, but most importantly, they are part of a social and cultural initiative developed to concretely affirm the right to education in and out of prison.
This conversation will be joined by incarcerated tutors who will bring their own experience in the helping relationship as personal growth and empathetic engagement; and the academic representatives will discuss the challenges of the tutoring process as a potential model of action also for post-incarceration life.
