Abstract:
Using Cystoreline to induce ovulation in rabbits. Some field observations.Artificial insemination (AI) in rabbit farms in European countries has become a common procedure because it allows to increase the farm productivity in order to have an increased number of does and to minimize the risk of some diseases. Ovulation in rabbit does under the conditions of natural breeding is physiologically induced by mating. However, when male rabbits are lacking, ovulation has to be induced artificially just before AI. The i.m. injection of either GnRH or its synthetic analogues is the most frequently used method to induce ovulation, since it enables repeated treatments without antigenic effects. Between synthetic GnRH, Cystoreline is the most similar to the natural hormone, having a low molecular weight and formed by only 10 amino acids. The present study evaluated the effect of Cystoreline (0.2 ml i.m.) administered at the moment of AI on the reproductive performance in nulliparous and multiparous crossbred rabbit does.
