Abstract:
The Author deals with the story of the ant-lion. This animal, born because of a translation mistake in the Greek Bible, survived in the tradition of Greek and Latin Physiologus and in later bestiaries, undergoing a strange metamorphosis: mermecolion in fact became the name of the pearl-oyster.
